Over the last several weeks, the U.S. – Azerbaijan dialogue has entered a new and a more intensive phase. The successful U.S. – Azerbaijan convention at the end of May brought leadersfrom many corners of the United States, including members of Congress, local officials and opinion-makers, to Azerbaijan. By reaching out to diverse constituencies throughout the United States, the organizers helped to facilitate a wide-ranging people-to-people conversation between the American and Azerbaijani participants. Symbolically, the timing of the Convention allowed the American guests to witness and to participate in celebrations of the Azerbaijan Republic Day, the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the first ever democratic republic with a majority Muslim population.
