Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu arrives in Azerbaijan for working visit
Prime Minister of the State of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Azerbaijan for a working visit on December 13. A guard of honor was arranged for the Israeli Prime Minister at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, December 13, at the Zagulba Palace in Baku, met with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev. At the meeting, agreements were signed on standardization, double taxation, agricultural cooperation and the establishment of a mixed commission on advancing bilateral cooperation on economic matters, science, technology, health, agriculture and trade; Environmental Protection Minister Zeev Elkin signed for Israel.

President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then arrived at Shafag residence, where in August, 1997, the Israeli Premier met with national leader Heydar Aliyev during his visit to Baku.
PM hails Azerbaijan cooperation as beacon of Jewish-Muslim coexistence

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday hailed Israel’s multi-billion dollar military cooperation with Azerbaijan as a positive example of Muslim-Jewish coexistence. A secular state that has long had warm relations with Israel, the overwhelmingly Muslim Azerbaijan is one of Israel’s main trading partners, buying weapons systems and providing the Jewish state with the lion’s share of its oil. “The world sees so much intolerance and darkness, this is an example of how the Muslim-Jewish relationship can and should be everywhere,” Netanyahu said. Netanyahu in his remarks also noted the growing cooperation between the two countries in the energy, agriculture, IT and education sectors. At the press conference, Aliyev said that Baku has purchased nearly $5 billion in Israeli weapons over the years. “We actively cooperate in the area of defense industries. This cooperation has lasted for many years already,” Aliyev told Israeli and Azerbaijani reporters at Baku’s Zagulba Palace.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has hailed his country`s cooperation with Israel in the area of defense industry. “We actively cooperate in the area of defense industry and this cooperation lasts already for many years,” he told a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Baku.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has praised the attitude to Jews in Azerbaijan as he made a press statement following his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev during his one day visit to Baku. “Israel is a Jewish state. Azerbaijan is a Muslim state, it has a predominately Muslim population. Here you have an example of Muslims and Jews working together to secure a better future for both of us. It is an example that shines against a background of intolerance and lack of acceptance and mutual respect in our time.”

Netanyahu welcomes Azerbaijan Jewish children

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara, met with members of the Azerbaijan Jewish community on Tuesday, at the Or Avner Chabad Day School in Baku.They first met with pupils and sat with them for an open chat. Sara Netanyahu asked about their homes, Jewish customs at home and the study of Hebrew. The pupils also spoke about the weekly Torah portion. The Prime Minister and his wife told them that their son won the Bible Quiz and that the Prime Minister reads the weekly Torah portion with his soldier son every Shabbat that he is on leave from the IDF.
Israeli PM visits education center for Jewish children in Baku
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Chabad Ohr Avner Education Center for Jewish children in Baku, Azerbaijan together with his wife. The Israeli prime minister expressed satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan and thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the attention given to education, including the education of Jewish children.
